Kumbalkai Gargi this is how this sweet dish is called as in North Karnataka. Its tasty one, one must try it out, we can call it as Pumpkin doughnut :)

Ingredients :

Pumpkin gratings : 1 heaped cup
Wheat flour : 1/2 cup
Jaggery : less than a cup(as per taste)
Salt : a pinch
Cardamom powder : 2 pinch
Poppy seeds : 1-2 tsp
Oil : to fry

Before Avarekaalu season its Togarikalu/Pigeon Peas season, you can make same recipes as you prepare for avarekaal.
Am posting a recipe which is spicy one, feels great to have it hot with mudde or rice :)

Ingredients :

Pigeon peas : 2 cup
Onion : 1 medium
Green/Red chilies : 4 -5 (depends)
Garlic : 6 -8 cloves
Coriander,Curry leaves : few
Coconut dry or fresh : 1 Tbsp
Hurikadale : 1/2 tbsp
Jeera : 1tsp
Poppy seeds : 1 tsp
Mustard seeds : 1tsp
Coriander seeds/powder : 1tsp
Cinnamon : 1 inch
Cloves : 3 -4
Sambar powder : 1 tsp
Tamarind juice : 1 Tbsp to the taste
Jaggery : to the taste
Oil : 2 Tbsp
Salt : to the taste

ಕಾಯಿ ಹೋಳಿಗೆ ~ Kai holige

Kai holige is a delicious sweet dish, this is another alternative way to make sweet dish by coconut when one has got bored  of  kobbari mithai.

Ingredients :

For Filling :
Freshly grated coconut : 2 cup
Chiroti rava : 1 Tbsp (optional)
Jaggery : 1.5 cup (depends on how much sweet u want)
Cardamom :  3 -4
Ghee : 1tsp (optional)

For Dough/Kanaka: 
All purpose flour : 1.5 cup
Chirotti rava : 1/2 cup 
Salt : 1 pinch
Oil : 1 tsp

ಸೌತೆಕಾಯಿ ಎಣಗಾಯಿ

Ennagai made from soutekai/cucumber is a common dish in North Karnataka.Its the best combination with jolada roti, can be had with chapati also. These cucumbers are in miniature form of  Mangalore / sambar soutekai.

 

Ingredients :

Cucumber small ones : 5 - 6 
Onion : 2
Garlic : 4 -5 cloves
Uchhellu pudi/Niger seeds powder: 1 1/2tbsp
Jeera : 1/2 tsp
Grated coconut :  1 Tbsp (optional)
Curry, Coriander leaves  : few
Red/Green chilies : 4 - 5
Jaggery : to the taste
Tamarind juice : to the taste
Salt
Oil

ಶೇಂಗಾ ಹೋಳಿಗೆ ~ Shenga Holige

Peanuts makes the holige a delicious stuff, can be kept for a week. its an North Karnataka recipe as i know.

Ingredients :

Peanuts : 2 cups 
Jaggery : 1/2 cup or to the taste
Cardamom powder : 2  
Dry cocnut gratings : 1 tbsp (optional)
Wheat flour : 1 cup
All purpose flour : 2  -3 tsp
Ghee : 1 sp
Oil : 1sp
