ಹಾಗಲಕಾಯಿ ಚಟ್ನಿ ~ Hagalkai Chutney

Haagalkai Chutney


Bitter gourd chutney is a tasty one with its usual bitterness :)

Ingredients :

Bitter Gourd : 1 - 2
Green/Red chillies :  3 -4 (to the taste)
Jaggery : 1 piece (to the taste)
Jeera : 1/2 tsp
Tamarind pulp : an inch (to the taste)
Curry, Coriander leaves : few
Grated coconut :  1 tbsp (optional)
Uchhellu pudi : 1/2 tbsp
Garlic pods : 2 -3 
Turmeric powder : a pinch
Oil : 1 tsp
Salt : as per taste


Method :

Wash Karela & cut in to thin slices.
Now take a kadai, add oil, fry the bitter gourd pieces until it loses its rawness.
Add garlic pods, chillies, jeera fry for a while.L Let it cool.


Mix add all the ingredients, grind/pulse it adding little water to a coarse paste.



Season with mustard seeds, urad dal, bengal dal, few curry leaves, hing.

Can be had with chapati, Roti & hot rice with ghee..tastes good..
