ಹಿಟ್ಟಿನ ಪಲ್ಯ ~ Hittina palya

Hittina Palya

This is another type of hittina playa  different from ಜುಣಕ / ಹಿಟ್ಟಿನ ಪಲ್ಯ .This is made into semi solid form, its a North Karnataka dish.


Ingredients :
Green gram flour/Besan flour(chick pea flour) : 1 cup
Onion : 1 medium  
Green Chilli paste/Green Chillies: 1tsp
Tamarind juice : 1 cup
Curry leaves, coriander lews : Few
Jaggery : 1- 2 tsp
Oil : 1 Tbsp Mustard seeds, jeera for seasoning.



Method :
Take a vessel add oil, add mustard seeds, jeera, curry leaves, few chopped coriander leaves, now add chopped onions, add chili paste/chopped chillies.
Saute until onion turns to slight brown.
Now add 2 cups of water,add jaggery, salt, turmeric, tamarind juice, bring it to boil , when it starts to boil add gram flour to it, stir quickly & continuously to avoid lumps with a wooden spatula/wooden stick/spoon. Water can be added if its dry, while its still on the flame. Once the flour is cooked, keep it on low flame closing the lid for few minutes.

If adding flour directly is difficult, one thing can be done, that is the flour can be mixed with 1/2 cup of water before adding to the boiling masala syrup.


Nice to have with Jolada roti/Chapati, its tasty & tangy side dish.
