Pineapple Kesari Bath

Kesari bhat/Sajjige made mainly in some occasions like on full moon days/ Poornimas, mainly as kids it was know for us as Sri Satyanarayan Swami Prasad.

Ingredients : 
Semolina/ Chirotti rava/Medium Rava : 1 cup
Pineapple chopped : 1 cup (preferably ripe pineapple)
Sugar : 1 cup or less than one cup.
Dry fruits : as per ur wish
Ghee : 3 - 4 Tbsp

Avarekai is a type of flat bean which is harvested at the end of the year from Dec to Feb known as Avarekai season, nowadays its available now & then in other months too, but what i feel is, those found in off season wont match the taste those found in avarekai season i.e. btw Dec to Feb, they wont hold that sogadu. Am amused about the love of people for this beans, bcos if you ask anyone about breakfast/lunch/dinner you will get the answer like Avarekalu Uppit/ avarekalu usli/ hitakida avarekalu saaru, avarekalu huli..hmmm the list is as long as arm  :), so it means, there will be no dish/day without using avarekai, in this season the menu is incomplete without avarekalu.
And one interesting thing i came to know in recent years by my cousin is that Avarekai Mela is held in Bangalore at Sajjan Roa Circle in V.V. Puram which is an annual event/fair . 

Ingredients :

Avarekalu ( De skinned) : 2 - 3cups
Onion : 1 - 2 
Tomato : 1 - 2
Grated Coconut : 2tbsp
Garlic pods :  6 - 8
Cinnamon : 1/2 - 1 inch
Poppy Seeds  : 1 - 2 tbsp
Jeera : 1 tbsp
Coriander seeds : 1 tbsp
Cloves : 4 
Roasted Bengal gram/Hurakdale  : 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder : 2 pinches 
Salt to taste
Red chillies/ red chilli powder/ Green chillies  : 4 -5 ( as per taste)
Curry leaves, Coriander leaves : Few
Tamarind juice : 1 tbsp
Oil :  1 - 2 tbsp

Menthya dosa looks colorful, green in color, an idea to make kids to have menthya in some form.

Ingredients :

For Dosa batter : -

Rice flour : 2 cups
Chopped Menthya leaves : 1 cup
Onion : 1 medium
Chillies : Green or Red  2 -3 ( depends)

Madaki Kaalina Palya

ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳು ಪಲ್ಯ
Moth bean, Haricot bean and Dew bean are the English names for Madaki Kaal. Its scientific name is Vigna aconitifolia. This legume is brown on the outside and white inside. It's similar to Greengram but slightly smaller. Madaki is a drought resistant, its commonly grown in arid and semi-arid regions of India. It is rich in protein and consumed in many forms- soaked, sprouted and cooked. Here we have a cooked dish commonly prepared in northern parts of Karnataka.

ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳು ಪಲ್ಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಬೇಕಾಗುವ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳು; 
೧. ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳು
೨. ೧ ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ
೩. ೪ ಹಸಿ ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ
೩. ಕರಿಬೇವು
೪. ಕೋತಂಬರಿ
೫. ಅಡುಗೆ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ೨ ಚಮ್ಮಚ 
೬. ಸಾಸಿವೆ & ಜೀರಿಗೆ
೭. ರುಚಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಷ್ಟು ಉಪ್ಪು
ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳು ಪಲ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ;
೧. ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳನ್ನು ಒಂದು ದಿನದವರೆಗೆ ನೆನೆಸಿಟ್ಟು ಮೊಳಕೆ ಒಡೆಸಬೇಕು.
೨. ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ-ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಸಣ್ಣಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.
೩. ಒಂದು ಪಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ೨ ಚಮ್ಮಚ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಾಕಿ ಒಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಾಯಲು ಇಡಿ.
೪. ಕಾದ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಸಿವೆ-ಜೀರಿಗೆ, ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ-ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ, ಕರಿಬೇವು ಹಾಕಿ ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಕಂದು ಬಣ್ಣಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಗುವವರೆಗೆ ಬೇಯಲು ಬಿಡಿ.
೫. ನಂತರ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಳಕೆ ಒಡೆದ ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕಲಸಿ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಉಪ್ಪು ಹಾಕಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ನೀರನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ. 
೬. ನೀರು ಕೇವಲ ಉಪ್ಪು ಕರಗುವಸ್ಟು ಮಾತ್ರ ಹಾಕಬೇಕು. ೫-೭ ನಿಮಿಷ ಸಣ್ಣನೆ ಉರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಯಲು ಬಿಡಿ.
೭. ನಂತರ ಸಣ್ಣಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿದ ಕೋತಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕಲಸಿ. ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳು ಬೆಂದ ನಂತರ ಒಲೆಯನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿ.
ಮಡಕಿಕಾಳು ಪಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸಜ್ಜಿ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಜೋಳದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಚಪಾತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೂ ತಿನ್ನಬಹುದು.

ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಪಲ್ಯ ~ Simple Onion Curry

 Simple Onion Palya ~ ಸರಳವಾದ ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಪಲ್ಯ

This is an simple recipe to make a delicious curry when you are in hurry, I feel these two Onion & Potatoes are good friends of a cook, as when there is no vegetables, one can prepare nice dishes with help of these. A friend in need is a friend indeed  :)

Ingredients :

Onion : 2 
Red chilli powder : 2 - 3 depends
Green chillies  : 2 -3 or  1 tsp chilli paste
Turmeric powder : 2 -3 pinches , if u use green chillies.
Hurkadale/Puttani hitt/Roasted gram flour : 1 - 2 tsp 
Oil : 2 Tbsp
Curry & coriander leaves : few
Mustard seeds : for seasoning

Greengram-Cucumber-Capsicum Salad

This is a easy to make salad. All you  require is green gram sprouts, cucumber and capsicum. Chop cucumber and capsicum into small pieces (smaller than shown in picture here). Mix them up with ground pepper. Instead of pepper, finely chopped chilly or red chilly powder can be used. You can also add chopped coriander too.

Add salt just before serving.

This is an ideal lunch time salad. Can be carried to office too, just make sure salt isn't added.
